Terms and Conditions: Knight of the Wheel Driving School

All lesson bookings, payments, and practical driving test arrangements are strictly subject to the following Terms and Conditions.

1. Driver Eligibility & Fitness to Drive

  • Provisional Licence: Pupils must hold a valid UK provisional driving licence and provide a DVLA check code prior to their first lesson.

  • Eyesight: Pupils must be capable of reading a standard vehicle number plate from a distance of 20 metres (with corrective lenses if required).

  • Sobriety & Health: Pupils must notify the instructor of any medical condition or medication affecting their ability to drive. Lessons will be cancelled immediately without refund if the instructor suspects impairment from alcohol, drugs, or medication.

2. Bookings, Punctuality, and Rearrangements

  • Punctuality: Instructors will wait up to 30 minutes at the agreed pick-up location. During this time, the instructor will attempt to contact the pupil via text message and phone call. For privacy and safety reasons, instructors are not permitted to knock on residential doors. If the pupil fails to respond or attend within 30 minutes, the lesson will be logged as an on-the-day cancellation. If a pupil arrives late, the lesson will still end at the scheduled time.

  • Instructor Rearrangements: In exceptional circumstances (e.g., pre-booked tests, mechanical breakdown, sudden illness, or extreme road delays), we reserve the right to reschedule lessons. Pupils will receive clear verbal or written notice as soon as possible.

3. Flexible Payments and Cancellation Policy

  • Payment Window: Payment is due up to 24 hours prior to the scheduled lesson time.

  • Cash Payments: Cash on the day is accepted only after several completed lessons once a mutual foundation of trust has been built. Acceptance of cash remains strictly at the instructor's discretion based on the individual student and circumstances.

  • Evening-Before Cancellations: Cancellations made by the evening prior to the scheduled lesson carry no penalty.

  • Same-Day Cancellations: Cancellations on the day of the lesson are non-refundable and charged at the full rate. Outstanding balances must be cleared prior to scheduling future sessions; if an outstanding balance is not cleared, the instructor reserves the right to deny any further teaching.

4. Students with Pre-Booked Practical Tests

  • Assessment Requirement: We generally do not accept new pupils who have already booked a practical driving test. New pupils with a pre-booked test will only be taken on if they agree to an initial assessment drive to evaluate their driving skills.

  • Required Training & Test Refusal: Following the evaluation, the pupil must agree to complete any further practice recommended by the instructor. If the pupil refuses to undertake the advised training, the instructor reserves the right to deny taking them to the practical test.

5. Practical Test Readiness & Vehicle Withholding

  • DVSA 10-Day Deadline: DVSA rules require 10 working days' notice to change or cancel a test without losing the fee.

  • Mock Tests: To evaluate test readiness, pupils must complete at least two (2) formal mock tests prior to the 12-day DVSA cutoff (which accounts for 10 working days plus 2 weekend days).

  • Withholding the Vehicle: The Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) holds final authority over vehicle safety. If serious or dangerous faults persist and recommendations to defer the test are declined, the instructor reserves the right to withhold the tuition vehicle for the practical exam.

  • ADI Reference Number: Provided only when the instructor determines the pupil is test-ready.

6. In-Vehicle Safety, Dashcams, and Audio Recording

  • Safety & Insurance Recording: Tuition vehicles feature front and rear dashcams recording external video and internal cabin audio for safety, training review, and insurance purposes. Internal video is never recorded.

  • Audio Opt-Out: Pupils uncomfortable with audio recording may request the microphone be muted prior to the lesson.

7. Data Protection & App Usage

  • Personal information and lesson logs managed through the app are processed in strict accordance with UK GDPR regulations and are never shared with unauthorized third parties.
